Aims

The course aims to equip the student with the knowledge and understanding of the importance of how strategic management theories and models can be applied in different contexts and how they inform decision making. Students will develop a skill set founded on strategic management theory, which will allow them to become an active actor in the strategy process that organisations deploy to ensure their long-term success.

Contents

The course covers the following topics:

  • Introduction to strategic management
  • Core concepts of vision, mission, values and goals
  • Evaluate the performance of the firm
  • External environment analysis
  • Internal environment analysis
  • Competitive strategies and its influence on organisations
  • Understand the importance of value creation
  • Expansion and growth in the emerging market
  • Strategy implementation

Learning support

There will be eight two-hour online lectures, 32 one-hour online surgery and four six-hour compulsory face-to-face day schools.

Assessment

There are two assignments, one application-based assessment, eight lecture polls, one compulsory oral presentation and a final exam. Assignments should be prepared with Microsoft Word, and submitted to Turnitin for plagiarism checking via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).

Equipment

Students will need access to a personal computer with an Internet connection.
