Four eminent personages bestowed honorary doctorates

On 12 December 2023, the University presented honorary doctorates to four distinguished leaders in recognition of their contribution to different industries and the whole society.

Mr Michael Wong Yick-kam, SBS, MH, JP
(Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa)

Mr Wong has served as the Chairman of the University's Council and contributed remarkably to the University's development, including playing a significant role in HKMU's renaming and rebranding. As the former Chairman of the Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association, he led the Mei Ho House revitalisation project to transform this Grade Two Historic Building into a vibrant youth hostel and a museum.

Mr Daryl Ng Win-kong, SBS, JP
(Doctor of Business Administration, honoris causa)

Mr Ng, the Deputy Chairman of Sino Group, has been instrumental in integrating sustainability into the Group's operations. To foster creativity in young minds and cultivate future scientists, he initiated the Hong Kong Science Fair for school students. His family's Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation has also donated to support many local non-governmental organisations, universities and social enterprises. 

Dr Roy Chung Chi-ping, GBS, BBS, JP
(Doctor of Business Administration, honoris causa)

Co-founder of Techtronic Industries Company Limited Dr. Chung is an extraordinary industrialist and philanthropist. Advocating innovation and technology, he supported the Government's Innovation and Technology Commission and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council in shaping their development. He also established the Bright Future Charitable Foundation in support of educational development and various social services for underprivileged individuals.

Prof. Sophia Chan Siu-chee, GBS, JP
(Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa)

Former Secretary for Food and Health Prof. Chan is a leading nurse scientist and expert in public health and the tobacco control sector. After joining the Government, Prof. Chan oversaw several major health, food and environmental hygiene initiatives, in particular the anti-epidemic measures for COVID-19, making significant contributions to Hong Kong.
