Inaugural distinguished alumni award honours four outstanding alumni

HKMU has long been committed to providing quality education and preparing its graduates to contribute to various sectors of society. Since its inception, the University has nurtured over 150,000 alumni. This year, while celebrating its 35th anniversary, the University established the biennial Distinguished Alumni Award in recognition of the exceptional achievements and contributions of its alumni. After a stringent nomination and assessment process, four award recipients were selected. The awards were presented by Council Chairman Ir Dr Conrad Wong Tin-cheung and President Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing at the presentation ceremony and banquet held on 27 June.

Mr Jet Chou Sai-kit
Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Humanities, 2008

Mr Jet Chou Sai-kit is a renowned Chinese chess player, holding the title of Hong Kong Xiangqu Grandmaster. He won a bronze medal at the World Mind Sports Games and was selected as the awardee of The Ten Outstanding Young Persons. Jet is dedicated to nurturing young chess players, with some of his students representing Hong Kong and winning medals in world-class chess competitions. He also founded the Jet Chou Chess Academy, contributing to chess development in Hong Kong. In recent years, he has frequently given voluntary chess lessons at children’s homes and has been invited by the Correctional Services Department to teach chess to inmates, helping them to develop the right values.

Mr Oscar Lee Ka-chun

in Mental Health Care, 2015

Mr Oscar Lee Ka-chun is an Advanced Practice Nurse (Special Duty) at the Hospital Authority, committed to improving nursing practices and patient care. He developed the New Case Booking System within the Psychogeriatric Outpatient Clinic, which revolutionised the logistics of patient care and boosted operational efficiency. He also initiated collaborations with the University in developing an online educational programme to provide training for staff at elderly homes. Over the past 20 years, Oscar has actively participated in volunteer work, and was honoured with the Voluntary Service Award (2,500 hours) by the Hong Kong Red Cross and the Individual Award in the Hong Kong Volunteer Award by the Agency for Volunteer Service.

Mr Leung Kwok-shing

Mr Leung Kwok-shing is the Executive Director of the Hok Yau Club. He had taught at primary schools for nearly 20 years, during which he received the Outstanding Teaching Award for Moral Education and the Szeto Wah Good Teacher Award. Mr Leung is a former member of the Hong Kong Men’s Basketball Team, and founded the charitable organisation Hoops for Hope Basketball Asia to provide volunteer basketball teaching services as well as education support for underprivileged children and youth. Mr Leung garnered multiple awards, such as the Ten Outstanding Young Persons, the Hong Kong Outstanding Volunteer Award, the Hong Kong Humanity Award, and the Youth DreamMakers Award.

The Hon Edmund Wong Chun-Sek

The Hon Edmund Wong Chun-Sek is a practising accountant and a member of the Legislative Council representing the Accounting sector. With extensive experience in accounting, taxation and auditing, he joined Patrick Wong C.P.A. Limited as an audit partner in 2012. Mr Wong has been actively involved in promoting the training and development of Hong Kong's accounting profession. Since being elected to the Legislative Council, he has been actively voicing his opinions and providing strategic advice on issues such as the development of and challenges faced by the accounting profession, revitalising Hong Kong’s capital market, and promoting Hong Kong’s economic development.
