Students recognised by various scholarships

HKMU students perform excellently in the fields of academic studies, sports and community service, and therefore are recognised by various scholarship schemes. Recently, a total of 1,102 full-time students were honoured in the HKSAR Government’s Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme (SPSS) this year, receiving a record-breaking total of HK$18.49 million.

In addition, eight outstanding students were awarded HSBC Scholarships of this year. Lau Ho-yin, Tsui Kwan-kiu and Wong Peck-hin received the HSBC Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong) Scholarship; Michelle Phagami, So Kwun-wang and Tam Ka-hei obtained the HSBC Hong Kong Scholarship; and Sin Pak-wing and Tang Yun-ting received the HSBC Vocational Education Scholarship.

Scholarships and Awards Gala

HKMU’s total scholarship amount reached an impressive HK$40 million this year, with over 1,700 students benefited. As a result, the University held the 2023–24 Scholarships and Awards Gala to express its sincere thanks and present the outstanding performance of the scholarship recipients to long-term donors and organisations supporting student development.

Alumna snatches Queen of the Buns title again

Nursing graduate Janet Kung Tsz-shan has been participating in the Cheung Chau Bun Scrambling Competition since 2012. In 2019, she won the championship of the women’s group and was crowned Queen of the Buns for the first time. This year, she scored 842 points, triumphing again as Queen of the Buns. She was also the highest scorer among all contestants in the competition.

Sparkling in the sports field

HKMU athletes have been making marks in various sports competitions. The University is especially heartened by the exceptional achievements of the HKMU Taekwondo Team in the 2023–2024 USFHK Taekwondo Competition. In Men’s Black Belt Kyorugi, Wong Tsz-hin won a gold medal in the under 74kg group, while Li Lap-fu captured bronze in the above 87kg group. In Men’s Black Belt Poomsae, Xu Jinxuan got a bronze medal in the Style 6 & Koryo category.

The HKMU Basketball Team and HKMU Table Tennis Team also received remarkable results in different intercollegiate contests. Four members of the Basketball Team, Chan Sum-yi, Chui On-yi, Law Suet-ying and Lee Chin-ching, competed in the CU3x3 Championship 2024 and won the championship in the Plate final. Meanwhile, Wu Wai-ching and Tsui Yu-yan of the Table Tennis Team took part in the Hang Seng All Schools Championships and captured the first runner-up in the Women’s Doubles of the University Group.

Moreover, the HKMU Dragon Boat Team put their best foot forward at the Dragon Boat Competition of the 67th Festival of Sport. They took the first runner-up in the Small Boat 100M Mixed Championship category and the second runner-up in the Small Boat 100M Post-secondary Open Championship category.
