These regulations are made under paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees.

In these regulations definitions shall apply as in the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees and in the Interpretation Section of the Academic Rules and Regulations.

Bachelor of Social Sciences in Law Enforcement and Security Management (BSSCLESM1)
1.	To be eligible for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Social Sciences in Law Enforcement and Security Management (Pathway 1), a student shall
	a)	comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status, and;
	b)	comply with the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees; and
	c)	obtain at least 120 credits of which no more than 40 credits shall be obtained at Foundation level; and
	d)	obtain at least 100 credits in courses prescribed by the regulations as appropriate to the degree for which notice has been given, including at least 20 credits in courses at Higher level.
2.	For the degree of Bachelor of Social Sciences in Law Enforcement and Security Management (Pathway 1), the University has prescribed that a student must
	a)	successfully complete 40 credits of compulsory courses labelled BC in Table 1 (i.e. LESM A201, LESM A202, LESM A203 and LESM A204); and
	b)	successfully complete 20 credits from courses labelled BF in Table 1; and
	c)	successfully complete 20 credits from courses labelled BM in Table 1; and
	d)	successfully complete 20 credits from courses labelled BH in Table 1, of which 10 credits should be from LESM A301 or LESM A305; and
	e)	successfully complete an additional 20 credits from any courses in Table 1 or any Foundation, Middle or Higher level courses offered by the University, provided that, of the total 120 credits*, no more than 40 credits are at Foundation level.
	*	Of the 120 credits required for the attainment of the degree, students can complete up to 40 credits of courses in a language of instruction other than English.


Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours in Law Enforcement and Security Management (BSSCHLESM)
1.	To be eligible for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours in Law Enforcement and Security Management, a student shall
	a)	comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status, and;
	b)	comply with the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees; and
	c)	satisfy the requirements of one of the following pathways towards the degree:
	Pathway 1 (BSSCHLESM1)
	1.1	To fulfill the requirements of this pathway, students must:
		a)	obtain at least 160 credits, of which no more than 40 credits shall be obtained at Foundation level; and
		b)	obtain at least 50 credits in courses at Higher level; and
		c)	successfully complete the prescribed programme of studies.
	1.2	The University has prescribed that a student must
		a)	successfully complete 50 credits of compulsory courses labelled HC in Table 1 (i.e. LESM A201, LESM A202, LESM A203, LESM A204, and LESM A304); and
		b)	successfully complete 20 credits from courses labelled BHF in Table 1; and
		c)	successfully complete 30 credits from courses labelled BHM in Table 1; and
		d)	successfully complete 40 credits from courses labelled BHH in Table 1, of which 10 credits should be from LESM A301 or LESM A305; and
		e)	successfully complete an additional 20 credits from any courses in Table 1 or any Foundation, Middle or Higher level courses offered by the University, provided that, of the total 160 credits*, no more than 40 credits are at Foundation level.
		*	Of the 160 credits required for the attainment of the degree, students can complete up to 50 credits of courses in a language of instruction other than English.
	Pathway 2 (BSSCHLESM2) – for Junior Police Officers of the Hong Kong Police Force, Customs Officers and above and Assistant Trade Controls Officers and above of the Customs and Excise Department, and Assistant Officers II and above of the Correctional Services Department
	To fulfill the requirements in this pathway, students must comply with the following:
	1.1	Entry Requirement
		To register as a student for the Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours in Law Enforcement and Security Management Programme (Pathway 2), a student shall be a Junior Police Officer, Customs Officer or above, Assistant Trade Controls Officer or above, or Assistant Officer II or above, who has successfully completed the Diploma in Law Enforcement and Security Management (60 credits at Foundation, Middle or Higher level courses*) plus two subsequent years of working experience in the Hong Kong Police Force, the Customs and Excise Department, or the Correctional Services Department as the case may be.#
		*	If credits are gained from courses at Pre-foundation level for the Diploma, the same number of credits from courses at Foundation level or above has to be completed for pursuing this Pathway.
		#	Students wishing to pursue this programme must directly articulate from the Diploma in LESM to this programme, and are not allowed to use the Diploma in LESM to articulate to the Higher Diploma in LESM or the B. Soc. Sc. in LESM before articulating to this programme.
	1.2	To fulfill the requirements of this pathway, students must:
		a)	obtain at least 80 credits, of which at least 40 credits in courses at Higher level; and
		b)	successfully complete the prescribed programme of studies.
	1.3	The University has prescribed that a student must
		a)	successfully complete 20 credits of compulsory courses labelled PC in Table 1 (i.e. LESM A201* and LESM A304); and
		b)	successfully complete at least 10 credits from courses MGT B240, MGT B290 and LESM A203*; and
		c)	successfully complete 10 credits from courses labelled BHM**** in Table 1; and
		d)	successfully complete 40 credits from courses labelled BHH in Table 1, of which 10 credits should be from LESM A301 or LESM A305.
		*	If LESM A201 is already taken in fulfilment of the Diploma in Law Enforcement and Security Management, students are required to choose 10 credits from courses labelled BHM other than those taken in fulfilment for the said Diploma programme, 1.3 b) or 1.3 c) above.
		**	Excluding those taken in fulfilment of the Diploma in Law Enforcement and Security Management and 1.3 c)
		***	If LESM A203 is already taken in fulfillment of the Diploma in Law Enforcement and Security Management, students can take MGT B240 and 5 credits from courses labelled BHM other than those taken in the fulfillment for the said Diploma programme.
		****	Other than those taken in fulfilment of the Diploma in Law Enforcement and Security Management and 1.3 b).
		NB1:	Diploma holders awarded or pursuing this 80-credit B.Soc.Sc. (Hons) degree programme are not eligible to use their Diploma in LESM to apply for conversion to higher awards of other programmes by means of articulation.
	Pathway 3 (BSSCHLESM3) – for Police Inspectors and above, Inspectors and above of the Customs and Excise Department, and Officers and above of the Correctional Services Department
	To fulfill the requirements in this pathway, students must comply with the following:
	1.1	Entry requirements
		a)	For Police Inspectors and above
			To register as a student for the Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours in Law Enforcement and Security Management Programme (Pathway 3), a student shall be a Police Inspector or above who has passed the Standard I and II Examinations administered by the Hong Kong Police Force plus two subsequent years of working experience at inspectorate grade*.
		*	Applicants who do not fulfill these criteria should contact the School of Arts and Social Sciences.
		b)	For Inspectors and above of the Customs and Excise Department
			To register as a student for the Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours in Law Enforcement and Security Management Programme (Pathway 3), a student shall be an Inspector or above who has EITHER passed the Promotion Qualifying Examination for Inspectors administered by the Customs and Excise Department, OR who has three years of working experience in the Customs and Excise Department at the inspectorate grade or above after confirmation as Inspector.
		c)	For Officers and above of the Correctional Services Department
			To register as a student for the Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours in Law Enforcement and Security Management Programme (Pathway 3), a student shall be an Officer or above who has passed the Promotion Qualifying Examination to Principal Officer AND completed the Junior Command Course, both administered by the Correctional Services Department, PLUS two years of working experience as Officer or above in the Correctional Services Department after the completion of the Junior Command Course.
	1.2	To fulfill the requirements in this pathway, students must comply with the following:
		a)	obtain at least 100 credits, of which at least 40 credits in courses at Higher level; and
		b)	successfully complete the prescribed programme of studies.
	1.3	The University has prescribed that a student must
		a)	successfully complete 20 credits of compulsory courses labelled PC in Table 1 (i.e. LESM A201 and LESM A304); and
		b)	successfully complete 20 credits from LESM A202 (or LESM A202CF), LESM A203 (or LESM A203CF) and LESM A204 in Table 1; and
		c)	successfully complete 20 credits from courses labelled BHM in Table 1 (other than those taken in 1.3(b)); and
		d)	successfully complete 40 credits from courses labelled BHH in Table 1, of which 10 credits should be from LESM A301 or LESM A305.
		* for police officers only
2.	Each degree with Honours shall be conferred with a classification of First Class, Second Class (Upper Division), Second Class (Lower Division) or Third Class save that exceptionally a degree may be conferred without classification.
3.	Subject to the requirements of the relevant programme of study, each person on whom an Honours degree is to be conferred shall be assigned to a classification determined by the University according to its regulations.
4.	For the calculation of scores for classification purposes in the degree of Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours in Law Enforcement and Security Management, the University has deemed that “Group (a)” shall consist of the best 40 credits in courses at Higher level listed in Table 1, and that “Group (b)” shall consist of the best 40 credits in courses at Higher or Middle level listed in Table 1, where such credits are not taken into account in “Group (a)” . Further, that “X” shall equal one, that is “Group (a)” and “Group (b)” shall be equally weighted. (Refer to the paragraphs on Classification of the Degree with Honours of the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees.)

MGT B340 was replaced by MGT B440. Students who have successfully completed MGT B340 will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements. Also, MGT B440 was replaced by MGT B441 and MGT B442. Students who have successfully completed MGT B440 will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements of MGT B441 and MGT B442.
Students who have enrolled on BUS B172 on or before April 2007 and passed the course will have the credits counted towards this programme and other relevant programmes of the Law Enforcement & Security Management Programmes. With effect from April 2008, this course is no longer offered.
Students who have successfully completed BIS B220/BIS B121 will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements of BIS B123.
Students who have successfully completed MGT B346 will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements of MGT B290.
Students who have successfully completed PUAD A201 will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements of PUAD A202 and PUAD A203.
Students who have enrolled on BUS B171 on or before 2020 Spring term and passed the course will have the credits counted towards this programme and other relevant programmes of the Law Enforcement & Security Management Programmes. With effect from 2020 Summer term, this course is no longer offered.
Students who have successfully completed SOSC A111C will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements of SOSC A121C and SOSC A122C.
