The COVID-19 pandemic has brought many challenges to our society, the education sector and all learners in past two years. For this reason, this Graduation Ceremony was postponed from November last year to February this year, and the venue was changed from Queen Elizabeth Stadium to online mode. However, despite all the challenges, I am delighted to learn that our students and staff have been able to sustain their learning and teaching interest and remained highly motivated in achieving their goals.
This Graduation Ceremony is also the first graduation ceremony held by the School using the University's new title, “Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU).” This title signifies a much broader, flexible identity, which is no longer limited to a single mode of education. With our new name, HKMU is poised to embrace the bold vision of developing all kinds of innovative programmes as society requires.
The significance of this event is particularly strong because of the difficult challenges we overcame in the past two years and the University's new development. I am pleased to share with you that about 3,250 graduates from more than 81 full- and part-time programmes offered by HKMU LiPACE will be conferred awards during this ceremony. The range of programmes the graduates represent here today include Higher Diploma, Diploma Yi-Jin, Non-local Bachelor degrees, Professional Certificates and Diplomas. My heartiest congratulations go to all the graduates for your success and achievements!
In conclusion, I would like to call upon all the graduates here to continue your relentless pursuit of personal development. Our society is undergoing a multifaceted transformation, driven by new technologies and innovations. Through continuous lifelong learning you can be assured that exciting opportunities await you in your careers and professional lives. Together, let us build a better world. Thank you.
