From Time Tunnel to Gallery Space

Dear Colleagues,

If you happened to visit our main campus recently, you may have noticed a distinct, and I hope pleasant change in the appearance of what was previously known as the “time tunnel” and its surroundings.

The transformed area, now air-conditioned, features a network of high-resolution video projectors, comfortable seats and movable partitions, which can be used as display panels and configured to suit different event requirements and exhibition needs. The large LED display and the spacious lift lobby also present new possibilities for activities such as movie viewing, mini concerts and student and staff performances.

Members of HKMU, including Creative Arts graduands, now have a new venue to showcase their multimedia talent and creativity. There is also a plan to illustrate the history of HKMU in the exhibition/gallery corridor.

These developments have been made possible by the “sacrifice” of colleagues, particularly those working in NEO. The additional space created on different floors as a result of the office relocation allowed the creation of exhibition/activity space, as well as the construction of new teaching and learning facilities, such as lecture/activity rooms and laboratories, which are compatible with modern pedagogical practices. The new buffer space has also made possible the long-awaited consolidation and renovation of the administrative and school offices in a sequential manner.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my HKMU colleagues involved in this project, especially staff of the Facilities Management Office, for their hard work. I would also like to thank those colleagues who patiently tolerated the noisy work. The project took longer than expected because the noisy demolition work could be done only at certain times of the day and on certain days of the week. Everything had to stop when there were complaints from library users, lecturers in class, and residents of nearby buildings.

“No pain, no gain”.

I hope members of the HKMU community will continue to support the University's efforts to modernise and enhance the ambience of our campus.
