Honouring eight distinguished individuals

Every year, HKMU recognises distinguished individuals who have made their marks in various fields through the conferment of honorary awards. The Honorary University Fellowship Presentation Ceremony and the Honorary Degrees Ceremony for this academic year took place on 4 October and 9 December 2024 respectively.

Mr Anthony Chan Tung-shan, MH

Mr Chan is a highly accomplished administrator who has held several prominent positions in the Government. Notably, he spearheaded the development of the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework in the Education Bureau to promote lifelong learning. He also served on the University's Council for six years, providing valuable insights to improve the institutional governance of the University.

Mr Choi Pat-tai, MH

Mr Choi is the President of Pak Shing Travel Co. Ltd. His remarkable achievements in the tourism industry are complemented by his unwavering commitment to philanthropy and community service. For many years, he has served as an Honorary School Advisor to the Li Ka Shing School of Professional and Continuing Education. He supports the School's Japanese Language and Cultural Studies Centre and helps advance vocational and professional education and training development.

Ms Jasmine Lee Shun-yi

Ms Lee, the Managing Partner of EY Hong Kong and Macao, has worked assiduously in the accounting field. In particular, she has promoted the development of professional services within the industry and supported greater integration and cooperation in the Guangdong–Hong Kong– Macao Greater Bay Area. As a champion of synergy between corporations and academia, she is a valued partner and benefactor of the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration.

Mr Wai Ka-fai

Mr Wai, a renowned Hong Kong filmmaker, showcases his exceptional talent with a prolific career. Over the past three decades, he has worked as a director, screenwriter or producer on more than 30 films, garnering film awards both locally and internationally, including the Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Screenplay and Best Director, as well as the Asian Film Award for Best Screenplay.

Prof. S. Tamer Cavusgil
(Doctor of Business Administration, honoris causa)

Prof. Cavusgil is a leading figure in the field of International Business, having made a profound impact on academic research related to the internationalisation of firms, global strategy and emerging markets. He has also shared his business insights through consultancy work with multinational corporations. From 2018 to 2020, he served as a Distinguished Professor at the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration, providing invaluable knowledge and guidance to the School's Institute of International Business and Governance.

Ms Chan Yuen-han, GBS, SBS, JP
(Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa)

Currently the Advisor of the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions (FTU), Ms Chan served as a Legislative Council member for nearly 20 years, making significant contributions to formulating public policies and promoting social welfare measures. During her tenure as Chairman of the Women's Commission, she supported the Capacity Building Mileage Programme launched by the Li Ka Shing School of Professional and Continuing Education, which empowers women to acquire new knowledge and unleash their potential.

Prof. Cheng Kai-ming, SBS, JP
(Doctor of Education, honoris causa)

Prof. Cheng is a distinguished expert in education policy and development. His involvement in the landmark 3-3-4 structural changes marked a transformative moment in the educational framework of Hong Kong. He has also worked as a consulting researcher for major international organisations, contributing to the evaluations and policy discussions of the education systems of various countries. Additionally, he has served as a Council member at the University, providing invaluable counsel during its early development.

Dr Choo Heng-cheong
(Doctor of Letters, honoris causa)

Dr Choo is a luminary in the realm of traditional Cantonese opera. He has served as a music director for numerous renowned Cantonese opera troupes and as a vocal coach for many famous performers, directing the recording of over 100 Cantonese opera albums and songs. He strives to preserve the spirit of Cantonese opera through public education. Since 2016, he has actively participated in various activities at HKMU, including serving as the Guest Chief Musician at the opening ceremony of the Ina Ho Cantonese Opera Research Centre in 2023.
