IOH awarded BEAM Plus Final Platinum rating

The Jockey Club Institute of Healthcare(IOH) was accredited with the BEAM Plus Final Platinum rating by the Hong Kong Green Building Council for its green campus design. With 30% greenery coverage, the complex incorporates many energy-saving and environmentally friendly facilities, including a rainwater harvesting system for irrigation, water-efficient fixtures, air quality enhancement devices, energy-efficient light fittings, a solar power system on the rooftop, and electric vehicular charging facilities for all parking spaces. The façade is also specially designed to reduce heat gain and light pollution.

Scholar receives inaugural Wasafiri Essay Prize

Dr Antony Huen Pak-hang, Research Assistant Professor of the School of Arts and Social Sciences, was awarded the inaugural Wasafiri Essay Prize, presented by the quarterly British literary magazine Wasafiri for his essay 'The “Old Hong Kong” and “A Gold-Sifting Bird”: Hong Kong and Chinese Ekphrasis in Contemporary British Poetry'. The essay defines two kinds of ekphrasis and analyses the works of selected British-Chinese poets, illuminating the close connections between contemporary British poetry, cultural memory and diaspora, as well as the complex geopolitical relations between Hong Kong, mainland China and the UK.
