Important notes
This course will be taught via face-to-face mode, commencing in September 2021. Lectures will be scheduled on weekday evenings and / or Saturdays.

Aims
This course aims to explore the relationship between language and concepts of power and ideology in the linguistic practices of contemporary society through the critical discourse analysis approach. Students will study the ways in which language varies across different subject areas, social settings, communicative purposes, as well as the social roles and identities of the parties involved.

Contact hours
Normally two hours per week.

Assessment
The continuous assessment portion of the course accounts for 60% of the total course score, while the final examination accounts for the remaining 40% of the total course score. Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
