SCI 8021SEF is a course designed by the School of Science and Technology for the Postgraduate programme.

Aims

This course is designed for students studying Medical Laboratory Science. It provides insights and understanding of theoretical and practical elements of molecular technology applicable to the field of medical science, and enhances students’ awareness of the use of these modern techniques in laboratory diagnosis and disease detection. 

Contents

The course covers the following topics:

  1. Nucleic acids
  2. Basic transcription apparatus
  3. Nucleic acid amplification testing
  4. Molecular basis of diseases

Assessment

Course assessment includes continuous assessment and a final examinations. Continuous assessment includes a mid-term test and laboratory reports. A three-hour final written examination will be conducted at the end of the course.
