Advisory prerequisite(s)
You are advised to have already studied BIS B121 (or BIS B123), ACT B210 (or ACT B211 and ACT B212).

Aims
This course aims to develop learners' awareness on the management and application of information systems to modern business organisations from an accounting perspective. It provides learners with knowledge of the risks of accounting information systems and the role of e-commerce in modern businesses.

Contents
The course covers the following topics:

  • The nature and value of information systems
  • Information technology infrastructure and security
  • Information systems for business intelligence
  • The environment of corporate information systems
  • Systems development process

Learning support
There will be five two-hour tutorials and a two-hour surgery.

Assessment
There are two assignments and one examination. Students must use word processing software (such as Microsoft Word) to prepare the assignments, and submit the assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).

Equipment
Students will need access to a personal computer with an Internet connection.
