You are advised to have completed SCI S102, SCI S112 or SCI S122.
Aims
The overall aim of this course is to introduce students to the basic principles of animal and plant physiology for applied science and environmental science.
Contents
The course aims to cover the following topics:
- Nutrition in plants and animals
- Growth and development in organisms
- Circulation and transport
- Secretion and hormones
- Reproduction and genome evolution
- Natural defense and immunity
- Adaptation and environment
Learning support
Examples of learning support include face-to-face tutorials, surgeries, laboratories, weblinks, CD-ROMs, videos and/or field visits. Laboratory sessions may be held on weekday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays.
Assessment
In addition to two assignments, assessment also includes laboratory performance and reports as well as a final examination. Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
Equipment
Students need access to personal computers or other electronic devices with an internet connection.
