Aims
The course aims to provide students with analytical skills required for applying appropriate statistical methods as well as quantitative analysis in making business decisions. It also aims to provide students with essential statistics and management science skills that are needed in other business courses.
Contents
The course covers the following topics:
- Data, sample design and descriptive statistics
- Probability and probability distributions
- Sampling distributions and interval estimation
- Hypothesis testing for one population
- Hypothesis testing for two populations and chi-squared test
- Analysis of variance and linear regression
- Time-series analysis and forecasting
- Linear programming
- Decision analysis
- Project management
Learning support
There will be ten three-hour tutorials.
Assessment
There are three assignments and one examination. Students must use word processing software (such as Microsoft Word) to prepare the assignments, and submit the assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
