Aims

This is a 3-credit-unit postgraduate-level course. It is a core course of the Master of Arts in Creative Industries and Cultural Assets programme. The course aims at equipping students to formulate their graduate project. Students will acquire the knowledge and skills needed to design and conduct research for their graduate project. They will also learn the appropriate writing styles and skills for academic writing.

Contents

The course covers the following topics:

  • Introduction to academic research practice
  • Literature review
  • Research approaches and design
  • Quantitative research methods
  • Qualitative research methods
  • Mixed research methods
  • Presenting research results in academic writing

Assessment

Assessment is based on students' performance in continuous assessment components, including class presentations and exercises, as well as two assignments. These components are worth 20%, 40% (Assignment 1) and 40% (Assignment 2) of the total marks for the course respectively. Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
