Aims
This course aims to equip students with key knowledge, understanding and skills related to the internal functions and the external environment of businesses. It provides a comprehensive introduction to various business and management topics, including human resource management, finance, marketing, economics, and business ethics.

Contents
The course covers the following topics:

  • The nature of business, the external environment of business, and stakeholders
  • Human resource management
  • Accounting and finance
  • Marketing
  • The economic system and business-government relations
  • Business ethics and corporate social responsibility
  • Globalisation and international business ethics

Learning support
There will be fourteen three-hour tutorials and one three-hour surgery.

Assessment
There are three assignments and one examination. Students must use word processing software (such as Microsoft Word) to prepare the assignments, and submit the assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
