Advisory prerequisite(s)
You are advised to have already studied ECON A231 and ECON A232, or ECON A231C and ECON A232C.

Aims
This course aims to expose students to modern macroeconomic theory, and to enable students to understand the policy options for economic growth and economic stabilization.

Contents
The course covers the following topics:

  • Neoclassical growth theory
  • The classical system in macroeconomic analysis
  • Aggregate demand and the Keynesian model
  • The IS–LM model
  • Aggregate supply
  • Theories of open macroeconomics

Learning support
There will be six two-hour tutorials and one three-hour supplementary lecture.

Assessment
There will be two assignments and a final examination. Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
