Aims

The course aims to develop students' advanced conceptual knowledge and practical skills in corporate finance and corporate risk management, to equip students with analytical tools to solve problems to make rational financial and risk decisions, and to prepare students to face the likely future development and challenges of corporate finance and risk management in Hong Kong, mainland China and internationally.

Contents

The course covers the following topics:

  • An overview of corporate finance
  • Investment decisions: Capital budgeting
  • Cost of capital and capital structure of a firm
  • Corporate financing decisions: Working capital management
  • Corporate financing decisions: Dividend policy and patterns of financing
  • Selected topics in corporate finance
  • Global risk environment and sector regulation
  • Key risk management concepts and risk management processes
  • Managing risk and compliance 
  • Risk and the business environment

Learning support

There will be ten two-hour online lectures, and two six-hour compulsory face-to-face day schools.

Assessment

There are two assignments, two application-based assessments, and one examination.  Assignments should be prepared with Microsoft Word, and submitted to Turnitin for plagiarism checking via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).

Equipment

Students will need access to a personal computer with an Internet connection.

Remarks

This is a two-term course starting in the Spring Term with teaching activities in the Summer Term. The course will end in the Summer Term.
