You are advised to have already studied ECON A232.

Aims
This course aims to provide learners with essential knowledge of banking and monetary systems. It analyses and interprets monetary policies and problems relating to the development and stability of the banking system in Hong Kong.

Contents
The course covers the following topics:

  • Introduction to money and banking
  • Banks, central banks and banking regulations
  • Monetary theory and interest rates
  • Formulating and implementing monetary policy
  • International banking

Learning support
There will be five two-hour tutorials and one two-hour surgery.

Assessment
There are two assignments and one examination. Students must use word processing software (such as Microsoft Word) to prepare the assignments, and submit the assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
