The School will only accept enrolment for MGT B399 by (i) students of the following distance learning (DL) programmes: BBAACT / BBAACT1 / BBACA / BBACA1 / BBAHACT / BBAHACT1 / BBAHCA / BBAHCA1, or (ii) students who are approved to retake the DL course for the following face-to-face programmes: BBACAF / BBAHATJ / BBAHCGJ / BBAHPAJ. If students are studying in a programme other than the ones listed above (with original requirements including MGT B399/MGT B399F) and they haven't completed MGT B399 / MGT B399F / MGT B399X, please enrol for MGT B398/MGT B398F instead of MGT B399/MGT B399F.

Advisory prerequisite(s)

You are advised to have completed at least 60 credits in courses of the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration.

Aims

This course aims to enhance students' ability to view business as an integrated whole. It provides students with an understanding of the factors that contribute to the long-term performance of a business, and introduces various tools and frameworks for strategic analysis and management. The course also helps students to better comprehend the ways that business entities can develop and maintain competitive advantages.

Contents

The course covers the following topics:

  • Overview of strategic management
  • Strategic analysis
  • Strategic formulation
  • International aspects of strategic management
  • Strategic implementation and control

Learning support

There will be six two-hour tutorials.

Assessment

There are two assignments and one examination. Students must use word processing software (such as Microsoft Word) to prepare the assignments, and submit the assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
