This is one of the core courses for the Bachelor of Nursing programme. This course is suitable for students who are interested in advancing their conceptual understanding of nursing practice.

Aims
The overall aim of Professional Nursing Practice is to advance students' understanding of the conceptual dimensions of nursing practice.

Specifically, NURS N310 Professional Nursing Practice aims to:

  • Expand students' understanding of the theoretical and research perspectives in nursing;
  • Develop students' readiness in the areas of professional responsibility, accountability, and critical thinking.

Contents
The course covers the following topics:

  • Theoretical nursing
  • Evidence-based practice and an overview of nursing research
  • Research process
  • Quantitative and qualitative research
  • Power and politics in nursing
  • Nursing leadership and management
  • Managing change and stress in nursing

Learning support
There will be 11 monthly two-hour tutorials throughout the course.

Assessment
There will be three written assignments (two for continuous assessment and one for final examination). All assignments are to be submitted online.
