This middle-level course is one of the core courses within the BSocSc in Public Administration and BSocSc (Hons) in Public Administration. It is suitable for social sciences students who wish to acquire the knowledge to understand and analyse the administration of the public sector.

Advisory prerequisite(s)
You are advised to have already studied SOSC A101, SOSC A112 or SOSC A112C.

Aims
This course aims to increase students' knowledge of public administration and the management of the public sector.

Contents
The course covers the following topics:

  • The study of public administration
  • From public administration to new public management
  • Improving the government’s performance
  • Managing the public sector
  • Accountability in the public sector

Learning support
There will be six two-hour tutorials and one two-hour supplementary lecture.

Assessment
There are two assignments and a final examination. Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
