Aims
The course is designed to allow students to investigate how various personal and environmental factors can provide psycho-developmental influences on athletes' sporting pathways. It also examines research specific to motivating and coaching athletes.

Contents
This course covers the following topics:

  • Athletic development paths
  • Family influences on athletic development
  • The coach-athlete relationship
  • Effective coaching behaviour
  • The athlete's journey through sport
  • Topical issues in athletic development

Learning support
There will be eight two-hour tutorials and eight three-hour workshops.

Assessment
There are four assignments and one examination. Students must use word processing software (such as Microsoft Word) to prepare the assignments, and submit the assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
