These regulations are made under paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees.

In these regulations definitions shall apply as in the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees and in the Interpretation Section of the Academic Rules and Regulations.

Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Humanities (BACH)
1.	To be eligible for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Humanities, a student shall:
	a)	comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
	b)	comply with the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees; and
	c)	obtain at least 120 credits of which no more than 40 credits shall be obtained at Foundation level; and
	d)	obtain at least 100 credits in courses prescribed by the regulations as appropriate to the degree for which notice has been given, including at least 20 credits in courses at Higher level.
2.	For the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Humanities, the University has prescribed that:
	2.1	Students enrolled with the University between October 1989 and April 1996, i.e. student numbers 89500000 to 96099999 must:
		a)	successfully complete not less than 100 credits from the courses listed in Table 1, of which at least 20 credits must be gained at Higher level (labelled CH); and
		b)	successfully complete 20 credits from any Foundation, Middle or Higher level courses offered by the University, provided that, of the total 120 credits, no more than 40 credits are gained at Foundation level.
	2.2	Students enrolled with the University in or after October 1996, i.e. student numbers not within the specified range in para 2.1 must:
		a)	successfully complete 20 credits of compulsory courses (labelled CC in Table 1); and
		b)	successfully complete 80 credits from courses labelled CF, CM or CH in Table 1, provided that, of the 80 credits, at least 20 credits are from Higher level courses (labelled CH in Table 1); and
		c)	successfully complete 20 credits from any Foundation, Middle or Higher level courses offered by the University, provided that, of the total 120 credits, no more than 40 credits are gained at Foundation level.

Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Chinese Humanities (BAHCH)
1.	To be eligible for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Chinese Humanities, a student shall:
	a)	comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
	b)	comply with the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees; and
	c)	obtain at least 160 credits of which no more than 40 credits shall be obtained at Foundation level; and
	d)	obtain at least 40 credits in courses at Higher level; and
	e)	successfully complete the prescribed programme of studies.
2.	For the degree of Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Chinese Humanities, the University has prescribed that:
	2.1	Students enrolled with the University between October 1989 and April 1996, i.e. student numbers 89500000 to 96099999 must:
		a)	successfully complete 10 credits of CHIN A361C; and
		b)	successfully complete 130 credits from Table 1, of which:
			(i)	at least 20 credits are from courses labelled COH; and
			(ii)	at least 30 credits are from courses labelled CHH; and
			(iii)	the remaining 80 credits are from any courses listed in Table 1; and
		c)	successfully complete 20 credits from any Foundation, Middle or Higher level courses offered by the University, provided that, of the total 160 credits, no more than 40 credits are gained at Foundation level.
	2.2	Students enrolled with the University in or after October 1996, i.e. student numbers not within the specified range in para 2.1 must:
		a)	successfully complete 30 credits of compulsory courses (labelled CCH in Table 1); and
		b)	successfully complete 110 credits from Table 1, of which:
			(i)	at least 20 credits are from courses labelled COH; and
			(ii)	at least 40 credits are from courses labelled CMH; and
			(iii)	at least 40 credits are from courses labelled CHH; and
			(iv)	the remaining 10 credits are from any courses listed in Table 1; and
		c)	successfully complete 20 credits from any Foundation, Middle or Higher level courses offered by the University, provided that, of the total 160 credits, no more than 40 credits are gained at Foundation level.
3.	Each degree with Honours shall be conferred with a classification of First Class, Second Class (Upper Division), Second Class (Lower Division) or Third Class save that exceptionally a degree may be conferred without classification.
4.	Subject to the requirements of the relevant programme of study, each person on whom an Honours degree is to be conferred shall be assigned to a classification determined by the University according to its regulations.
5.	For the calculation of scores for classification purposes in the degree of Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Chinese Humanities, the University has deemed that “Group (a)” shall consist of the best 40 credits from Higher level courses listed in Table 1, and that “Group (b)” shall consist of the best 40 credits in courses at Higher or Middle level listed in Table 1, where such credits are not taken into account in “Group (a)”. Further, that “X” shall equal one, that is “Group (a)” and “Group (b)” shall be equally weighted. Students who have enrolled on TRAN A251C and/or TRAN A252C before April 1997 and passed the course(s) will have the credits counted as courses labelled CM towards the BA degree and as courses labelled CMH towards the BA with Honours degree.
