Regulations for the Higher Diploma in Language and Translation, the Diploma in Language and Translation, and the Diploma in Language (English and Chinese)

These regulations are made under paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Sub-degree Qualifications (Sub-degrees).

In these regulations definitions shall apply as in the Regulations for the Award of Sub-degree Qualifications and in the Interpretation Section of the Academic Rules and Regulations.

Higher Diploma in Language and Translation (HDLT)
1. To be eligible for the award of the Higher Diploma in Language and Translation, a student shall:
  a) comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  b) comply with the Regulations for the Award of Sub-degree Qualifications (Sub-degrees); and
  c) obtain at least 90 credits in courses prescribed by the regulations including at least 10 credits at Higher level and no more than 10 credits at Pre-foundation level.
2. For the Higher Diploma in Language and Translation, the University has prescribed that a student must:
  a) obtain at least 10 but no more than 20 credits from courses labelled CE in Table 1; and
  b) obtain 30 credits from courses labelled CT and/or CH in Table 1; and
  c) obtain 30 credits from courses labelled EPF, EF, EM and/or EH in Table 1; and
  d) obtain 10 credits from courses labelled CH or EH in Table 1; and
  e) complete additional course(s), as necessary, from Table 1, provided that of the total 90 credits, no more than 10 credits are from Pre-foundation level courses.
     
Diploma in Language and Translation (DLT)
1.

To be eligible for the award of the Diploma in Language and Translation, a student shall:

  a) comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  b) comply with the Regulations for the Award of Sub-degree Qualifications (Sub-degrees); and
  c) obtain at least 60 credits in courses prescribed by the regulations including at least 20 credits at Middle level and no more than 10 credits at Pre-foundation level.
2. For the Diploma in Language and Translation, the University has prescribed that a student must:
  a) obtain at least 10 but no more than 20 credits from courses labelled CE in Table 1; and
  b) obtain 20 credits from courses labelled CT in Table 1; and
  c)

obtain 20 credits from courses labelled EPF, EF or EM in Table 1; and

  d)

complete additional course(s), as necessary, from those labelled EPF, EF, CF, CM or EM in Table 1, provided that of the total 60 credits, no more than 10 credits are from Pre-foundation level courses.

     
Diploma in Language (English and Chinese) (DLEC)
1. To be eligible for the award of the Diploma in Language (English and Chinese), a student shall:
  a) comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  b) comply with the Regulations for the Award of Sub-degree Qualifications (Sub-degrees); and
  c)

obtain at least 60 credits in courses prescribed by the regulations including at least 20 credits at Middle level and no more than 10 credits at Pre-foundation level.

For the Diploma in Language (English and Chinese), the University has prescribed that a student must:

  a)

obtain at least 10 but no more than 20 credits from courses labelled CE in Table 1; and

  b) obtain 20 credits from courses labelled CF or CM in Table 1, of which at least 10 credits must be gained at Middle level (labelled CM in Table 1); and
  c) obtain 20 credits from courses labelled EPF, EF or EM in Table 1, of which at least 10 credits must be gained at Middle level (labelled EM in Table 1); and
  d) complete additional course(s), as necessary, from those labelled EPF, EF, CF, CM or EM in Table 1, provided that of the total 60 credits, no more than 10 credits are from Pre-foundation level courses.
