Visual arts inspire creativity in young minds

With her passion for education and art, Fung Wai-man, graduate of the Bachelor of Education with Honours in Primary Education programme, has designed interesting visual arts courses for primary school students. She hopes what she did could integrate art into life, inspire students' creativity and shape their personality, nurturing them to become persons of good character. Ms Fung was presented with the Chief Executive’s Award for Teaching Excellence in recognition of her professionalism and dedication to work.

The University held the fifth talk of the 'Talk of the Metropolis' series on 26 July. Ms Winnie Ho Wing-yin, Secretary for Housing of the HKSAR Government, was invited to share her experience in the construction of community isolation facilities during the pandemic under the topic 'Turning Impossible to Possible – Construction of the Community Isolation Facilities and Beyond'.

Launched by the Alumni Affairs Unit and hosted by alumna DJ CPui Lo, the online talk series 'New Perspective for Career Development' for this year was kick-started on 19 July. Alumna Ms Maria Luisa Poon was invited to speak on 'Building and developing a brand – sharing from a brand storyteller', sharing her insights and experience on brand building and marketing strategies.

The Public and Social Policy Research Centre has used the 'HKMU HOS Price Index' to examine the difference in price trends between the Home Ownership Scheme (HOS) secondary market and the private property market in Hong Kong during the pandemic. The study found that local HOS secondary market prices were affected by the pandemic to a certain extent and showed a significant difference from the price of private housing.

President Prof. Paul Lam shared the University’s latest developments with the media in a gathering on 7 July. The University is planning to add a number of key teaching and research facilities, including a laboratory for medical laboratory science and a physiotherapy clinic, to nurture medical laboratory technologists and physiotherapy professionals to address the urgent demand for medical professionals in Hong Kong.

Over the years, the University has been striving to provide quality nursing education to society. In 2008, the University inaugurated the first local integrated teaching centre for general, mental and Chinese medicinal nursing, providing holistic nursing training for students. The centre was furnished with different types of simulators, control racks and recording systems which made advanced and interactive nursing skills training as well as assessment of the nursing and clinical competency of students possible.

In face of challenges brought by an aging population and the growing demand for healthcare services and healthcare professionals, a new campus HKMU Jockey Club Institute of Healthcare was inaugurated last year with the provision of technologically advanced facilities and equipment to train nursing and physiotherapy professionals. Meanwhile, the University is planning to add a number of key teaching and research facilities, including a laboratory for medical laboratory science and a physiotherapy clinic to further expand its range of healthcare-related programmes.
