The HKMU Students' Union (formerly known as The OUHK Students’ Union) was established in the 1990s as a channel of communication between the students, the University and the community. Through various activities and projects, Students' Union aims to promote the welfare of the students and furnish them with invaluable social and learning opportunities. Passing on the torch, Students' Union has come all along the way to the 16th session. Named 'Nereus' (‘昀潚’ in Chinese) symbolising light and the bright side, the new session hopes to bring positive energy to society and enhance social cohesion.
The University is fully supportive of the Students' Union. Not only their representative enjoys voting right in the University Council, but also there are dedicated committees to handle SU related matters such as approving activities and budget. In the year ahead, the new session plans to hold a carnival to promote local Hong Kong cultures and contribute to the preservation of Cantonese.
