Employees' Compensation Ordinance, Negligence Claims and Privacy Law

Mr Tang graduated from the Sociology Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and he obtained a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of London. In 2009 and 2010, he was a part-time member of the Central Policy Unit, HKSAR.

He is now a partner of Tang, Wong & Chow Solicitors and a voluntary legal consultant for a number of associations including the Hong Kong Journalists Association, the Hong Kong Social Workers' General Union and the Hong Kong Social Workers Association.

He will share cases involving the employees' compensation and negligence claims. He will also talk about how the privacy law is related to individuals and enterprises.

The Alumni Affairs Office of the Public Affairs Unit has recently raised money for the Alumni Scholarship and Bursary Fund. There were totally 172 alumni and students supporting the events and together they donated $102,500. As a token of appreciation, the Alumni Affairs Office invited them to attend three talks, at which volunteer speakers shared their valuable experiences and highlighted some of the legal issues commonly encountered at work or in everyday life. Each talk was attended by about 150 people. The first talk on 'Employees' Compensation Ordinance, Negligence Claims and Privacy Law' was hosted by Mr Herman Tang, a solicitor, on 18 May. Various topics were covered, including the definition of self-employed and employed, the liability of employer in case of death of staff on a business trip, the required elements of negligence claims and the privacy concerns surrounding positive mortgage data sharing. The talk provided an opportunity for participants to learn more about their legal rights. All donations received will go to the Alumni Scholarship and Bursary Fund to provide assistance to outstanding or financially-needed students. The Fund will be matched 100% by the Mr. Vincent Woo Matching Donation Fund.
