This programme aims to broaden and deepen students’ understanding of economic science. Graduates will achieve the ability to think critically in business/economic policy analysis. The Honours programme will also enrich and strengthen students’ expertise and experience in economic research, enabling them to pursue graduate studies successfully. Apart from the solid training in economics, the programme equips students with the necessary skills and knowledge to work at the managerial/ administrative level in business, banking and finance, education, government, as well as other non-profit making organizations.

Students pursuing this programme must successfully complete at least 160 credits as follows. Of the 160 credits required for the attainment of the honours degree, students can complete up to 50 credits of courses in Chinese.
(a) 50 credits from:

Choosing the first courses to get started
Students can choose one or more of the following courses to begin their study:
ECON A231 Introduction to Microeconomics
If students have already taken introductory microeconomics and introductory macroeconomics at the tertiary level, they can consider the following courses to get begin their study:
Students should consult the academic staff for course selection if they intend to apply for credit transfer from a recognized tertiary institution.
Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours in Economics (160 credits)
Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours in Economics (with Finance) (160 credits)
Bachelor of Social Sciences in Economics (120 credits)

Students are required to complete 160 credits but they may opt to graduate with a lower qualification such as Bachelor of Social Sciences in Economics [BSSCE] (120 credits) after completing the required number of credits and fulfilling the requirements of the programme regulations.
