Charismatic Historical Figures in Cantonese Opera Concert In Celebration of HKMU 35th Anniversary (October 27, 2024)

A&SS and IHCORC, co-organised by the Centre of National History Education (Hong Kong), jointly hosted the “Charismatic Historical Figures in Cantonese Opera Concert – In Celebration of HKMU 35th Anniversary” on October 27, 2024 (Sunday) at the Jockey Club Grand Theatre, The Jockey Club Institute of Healthcare (IOH). The performance was warmly received and greatly appreciated by over 300 audiences.

In his speech, Prof Charles Kwong, Vice President (Administration and Institutional Advancement) of HKMU, expressed his gratitude to the performers for celebrating the 35th anniversary of HKMU in such a unique way.

Prof Lui Yu-hon, Senior Advisor to the President of HKMU, Dr Eva Cheng JP,  and Dr Kelly Chan, Director of IHCORC, together with veteran Cantonese opera actor Mr Sun Kim-long and rising Cantonese opera performers including Mr Thompson Vong Seng-pan, Ms Angel Leung Sum-yee and Ms Chan Hei-yu, performed a variety of traditional Cantonese operatic works that brought to life the elegance and charisma of various historical figures.

In addition, renowned historians Prof Joseph Ting Sun-pao and Dr Yau Yat present segments titled “Overview of Charismatic Historical Figures” and “Introduction to Historical Figures in the Operas,” respectively, providing the audience with more perspectives to understand the characters and historical backgrounds.
