Ina Ho Cantonese Opera Research Centre and the Hong Kong & Macau Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Center co-organized a public seminar on September 27, 2024 (Friday), titled ‘The Never-ending Momentum of Tradition and Innovation’.

The seminar was hosted by Prof. Fredric Mao Chun-fai, who, along with guest speakers Prof. Franco Yuen Siu-fai and Mr. Jason Kong Chun-kit, shared their experiences of balancing tradition and innovation in artistic creation.

This seminar was part of the activity series under the “Jockey Club Mao Chun Fai Innovative Works in Theatre Scheme”, in which Prof. Mao summarized and shared the research and innovation results of the scheme over the past three years. The event was well-received by HKMU students, staff, alumni, and the Cantonese opera enthusiast public — over 150 participants gathered at the Lu Sin Lecture Theatre (D0309). Prof. Mao, Prof. Yuen, and Mr. Kong shared their experiences and insights about the necessity of innovating traditional classics, referencing the scheme’s work over the past three years.
