The Cantonese Opera Elements in Hong Kong Funeral Music: Insights from the film 'The Last Dance' (December 14, 2024)

IHCORC held a public seminar titled 'The Cantonese Opera Elements in Hong Kong Funeral Music: Insights from the film The Last Dance' (「從電影《破‧地獄》看香港殯儀音樂的粵劇元素」) on 14 December 2024. The seminar was delivered by Dr Chan Chi Chun. Dr Chan analyzed the musical elements of Hong Kong funeral rituals and traced the historical and cultural background of why these musical elements are closely related to Cantonese opera. He also explained how Cantonese musicians construct funeral music with a Cantonese style through techniques such as ornamentation and variation. The seminar was well attended with over 110 participants.
