Workshop for the series of “Chinese Mythology in the Digital Age”

This workshop invited the award-winning Hanfu costume and makeup designer, Miss Binggan, who has over a decade of experience in Hanfu styling makeup teaching and various shootings. It focused on the theme of “Hanfu,” exploring the historical evolution, characteristics, and structure of traditional Han Chinese attire, as well as the Chinese mythical beasts and animals depicted on these garments.

A significant focus was the exploration of Chinese mythical beasts depicted on Hanfu costumes. These symbolic representations, particularly like Taotie pattern and Phoenix pattern and Qilin and Crane on Mandarin Square (the rank badge of official garments), are deeply rooted in Chinese mythology and folklore, which play a crucial role in the aesthetic and symbolic language of traditional Han attire.

Hanfu refers to the traditional clothing of the Han ethnic group, which has experienced a renaissance over the past two decades, emerging as a new fashion trend through the efforts of Hanfu experts and enthusiasts across various regions. Hanfu culture has been promoted on social media platforms through the integration of digital techniques.

The workshop content encompassed an introduction to Hanfu from different dynasties, including pre-Qin (Warring States), Han, Wei-Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, Tang, Five Dynasties, Song, and Ming. It also included demonstrations of traditional etiquette and Hanfu dressing techniques. Furthermore, the guest discussed the modernization of traditional Hanfu, including contemporary hairstyles and accessories, and explored the application of traditional attire in modern life. There was an interactive session where attendees were invited to participate in dressing Hanfu, providing a hands-on experience with this cultural attire.
