Undergraduate Global Immersion Programme

Being able to work effectively with foreigners and foreign organisations has become a very important contributor to career success in the internationalised economy. The Undergraduate Global Immersion Programme (UG-GIP) is designed to support B&A students in developing their potential in the internationalised environment. UG-GIP aims to instill in students a deeper understanding of a foreign culture and its society and environment, and expose students to a broader overview and understanding of international business.

For senior year entry students, UG-GIP comprises two non-credit-unit bearing courses: GIP 300BEF (Year 3)*, and GIP 400BEF (Year 4). These courses are designed to enhance students’ intercultural awareness and communication skills and help students to develop a global mindset.

*GIP 300BEF includes a study tour. Students are responsible for incidental expenses such as airfare and accommodation.

Students' Sharing

I was thrilled to join the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong as a Public Relations intern, which was also my first internship in the hotel industry.

The Four Seasons brand is renowned for its exceptional service and attention to detail. I am grateful for the chance to be part of the world-class team, and be entrusted with a high level of responsibility in my department.

From the first day of my internship, I was given important tasks such as drafting press releases, coordinating media interviews, and managing website updates. These tasks quickly familiarized me with the business operation of the hotel and allowed me to get in touch with different marketing campaigns.  What's more, they taught me the importance of effective communication, organization, and time management in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.  Now, I am able to handle tasks and problems with efficiency, hold conversations confidently with media and manage projects with colleagues professionally. Through this internship, I have gained valuable insights into the inner workings of a luxury hotel and the role of Public Relations in maintaining the hotel’s branding.

After renovation and rebranding in the past few years, Regent Hong Kong has made a magnificent return to the Victoria Harbour. As the first and only hotel built on dock piles over the harbour's edge, this infrastructure has always been an iconic landmark. And I am honoured to participate, among the first batch of trainees, in the hotel's soft opening stage as a legend reborn in Hong Kong.

During the four-month internship, I was trained in the Regent Experience team which combines Front Office, Guest Relations, Concierge and Guest Services. This arrangement aims to refine our service commitment which is to uplift guests' experience at Regent by offering one-stop services. Thanks to the fruitful training and tremendous support given by my supervisors and colleagues, I became more confident in engaging guests in person and am able to work independently. Despite the occasional stress and challenges in the beginning, I've now successfully aligned with the service standards commanded by a five-star luxury hotel.

Time flies and I've already become a Regent Master! I wholeheartedly appreciate the job rotation arrangement which allowed me to fully experience their day-to-day operation procedures.  Once again, this internship has assured my career aspiration and determination to contribute to the hotel industry after graduation.

Working as a concierge trainee at Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong is certainly one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. In this six-month internship, I worked along with some of the most talented and dedicated professionals in the hospitality industry whose guidance and mentorship have allowed me to develop my skills and comprehension of the service quality expected in a luxury hotel.

I have been fortunate enough to be part of a team that encouraged me to try and consistently go beyond myself to exceed guests' expectations. As a concierge trainee, I have learnt how to anticipate guests' needs and provide personalized service to make their stay truly memorable. What’s more, the internship has expanded my horizons and understanding of hospitality in terms of the various roles and functions within the hotel industry. It helped me determine whether I was suited for a career in the hotel industry.

Last but not least, I am extremely grateful to my school for this wonderful opportunity and to Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong for the graduate job offer. I am excited to see where this career path takes me.
