Biography
Professor Alan AU Kai-ming obtained his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Waikato in New Zealand, where he began his academic career. Joining HKMU in 1995, he was appointed as Associate Dean (B&A) in 2010 and Dean (B&A) since 2015. With almost 29 years of experience at HKMU, Professor AU has spearheaded and implemented a number of strategic initiatives in line with the University’s mission and goals, including most notably the introduction of integrated curriculum in undergraduate business programmes and the development of the Global Immersion Programme. Under his leadership, the School of B&A has fostered international academic collaborations with over 20 partners across 12 different countries and forged impactful strategic partnerships within various industries.
Professor AU has published widely in international refereed journals, such as Global Strategy Journal, Journal of World Business, Journal of Business Ethics, and Entrepreneurship and Regional Development. His areas of specialisation include business ethics, international management, technology transfer and marketing. As Principal or Co-Principal Investigator, he has secured over HK$20 million in external competitive grants and internal grants. Professor AU is also committed to promoting knowledge exchange between the academia and society at large. He has published articles extensively in major local newspapers and business magazines on topics relating to branding, consumer behaviour, management and marketing communications. Over the years, Professor AU has also engaged in numerous consultancy projects for the public and private sectors, such as the Hong Kong Government, US Government, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, District Boards, Bureau of Foreign Trade and Cooperation of Guangzhou Municipality, A.S. Watson Asia Limited, and KONE Hong Kong.
Professor AU currently serves on HKMU Court and Senate, as well as a number of University committees. He is also actively involved in professional and public services. As a Fellow of The Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) in the United Kingdom and The Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute (HKCGI), Professor AU is also currently the Chair of the Professional Standards Committee of CGI and member of the Executive Committee of its International Council. He is also invited to serve on the Advisory Group for Financial Education for Young Adults of the Investor and Financial Education Council, as well as the Research Ethics Committee of the Hong Kong Sanatorium Hospital Medical Group. Furthermore, Professor AU is regularly invited by HKCAAVQ to serve as chairman or expert member in panels for the accreditation of both local and overseas academic programmes offered in Hong Kong.
