This programme aims to provide practical knowledge and skills for those who wish to pursue or further advance their careers as corporate administrators and company secretaries. It is also designed to develop students into well-rounded corporate leaders who excel in effective planning and implementation of corporate policies and strategies, while ensuring compliance to a good standard of corporate governance.

On successful completion of the programme, students should be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical, practical, comparative and international dimensions of corporate administration and company secretarial practices in changing business and regulatory contexts, evaluate the various theories underpinning good corporate governance, and to offer financial and legal advice on the conduct of business.

About The Programme

Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs)

  1. Critically analyse and apply the concepts of business and professional integrity in a broad range of company secretarial practices, including the area of professional ethics.
  2. Appraise and exercise appropriate judgement to resolve governance and compliance problems in relation to business and non-business corporations.
  3. Apply the concepts, legal principles including compliance of internal and external regulations, and the best practices for efficient and effective corporate governance. 
  4. Communicate effectively as a business executive with people from diverse backgrounds in the context of corporate governance.

Entry Requirements

Applicants to the MCGCF programme must satisfy the following entry requirement:

  • a recognised degree in a business-related area (or its equivalent); OR
  • a recognised degree in a non-business area (or its equivalent), plus at least three years of supervisory/managerial experience.
  • applicants must meet the following English language proficiency requirements if their Bachelor's Degrees or equivalent qualifications did not adopt English as the medium of instruction.

Special Entry Route: Applications of non-business degree holders with less than three years of supervisory/managerial experience will also be considered. Instead of 36 credit-units, successful applicants are required to complete 48 credit-units for graduation including a 1-term, 12-credit-unit course, BUS 8008BEF Business Administration Perspectives offered in May / June or a 2-term, 12-credit-unit course, BUS 8028BEF Business Administration Perspectives (Two Terms) offered in September in each year.

In addition to the 36 credit-units (or 48 credit-units for Special Entry Route), students will need to complete additional courses required by the School after assessing their academic backgrounds, results in the admission tests, language proficiency and other relevant factors in order to facilitate effective learning of Master's degrees in business-related areas. The specific requirements will be stipulated in the offer letter.

Professional Recognition

The Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute (HKCGI)

The Chartered Governance Institute (formerly The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators or ICSA)

Holders of the Master of Corporate Governance and Compliance (MCGCF) are eligible for full exemption from the qualifying programme of The Chartered Governance Institute and HKCGI. If students intend to apply for full exemption after the completion of the MCGCF programme, they must register for student membership with HKCGI within three months after they have enrolled in the MCGCF programme, and must complete the MCGCF programme within 1.5 years for face-to-face full time mode and three years for face-to-face part-time mode. In addition, students must maintain their studentship with HKCGI during their course of study (with a minimum period of two years) for their applications of full exemptions in order to become a Graduate of HKCGI. Students awarded advanced standing credits by the University towards the MCGCF programme may not be eligible to receive full exemption from the qualifying programme. It is always the student's responsibility to confirm with the HKCGI that they are eligible for full exemption after the completion of the MCGCF programme.

DURATION OF STUDY

Full-time and part-time students can normally complete the Master's programmes in 18 and 30 months respectively. The minimum study duration for full-time students of the Master's programmes is 1 year. The minimum study duration for part-time students of the Master's programmes is 2 years. Students admitted through the Special Entry Route will normally start the programme 3 months earlier than other students for taking BUS 8008BEF Business Administration Perspectives.

MODE OF STUDY

The courses in the programme will be taught through face-to-face mode. The programme will accept new students in the Autumn Term only.

LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION

The language of instruction for all courses of the programme is English.

Global Immersion Programme

In the era of globalisation, market opportunities and business operations are no longer confined by national boundaries. B&A is dedicated to preparing students for the challenges of the international business environment. In view of this, the Global Immersion Programme is designed to provide students with opportunities to study and travel abroad, gain exposure to the language of global business, engage with global issues, and ultimately become empowered global citizens. The tuition fees include the fees for the Global Immersion Programme^. Air passage, food, accommodation, and other incidental expenses are not included in the tuition fees and are to be borne by students. The Global Immersion Programme is compulsory for full-time students and optional for part-time students.

ADMISSION INTERVIEW ARRANGEMENT

Applicants who are deemed to have fulfilled the entry requirements will be invited to attend an admission interview. The interview will be conducted via Zoom. Candidates may be asked to discuss current affairs and/or case analysis for the assessment of their capabilities, such as analytical skills, adaptability, interpersonal skills, presentation skills, and their ability to form logical arguments.
