The programme aims to equip students with advanced knowledge and skills necessary to become effective leaders in the hotel industry. The programme provides students with a comprehensive understanding of various aspects of hotel management, including leadership and talent management, ESG investing and reporting, and revenue management. Through a combination of theoretical and practical coursework, students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills essential for a successful career in the hotel industry. The programme also emphasises the significance of ethical and sustainable practices in hotel management, preparing students to become responsible leaders who can contribute to the growth and development of the industry.

About The Programme

Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs)

  1. Critically evaluate the principles and practices of the hotel business management by utilising relevant theories and practices.
  2. Synthesise and apply global transferrable skills to address complex challenges in the hotel industry.
  3. Evaluate and implement sustainable strategies to cope with the dynamic business environment in the hotel industry.
  4. Demonstrate and integrate effective leadership and communication skills to lead and manage teams that drives organisational success.

Entry Requirements

Applicants to the MPMHBF programme must satisfy the following entry requirement:

  • a recognised degree in a business-related area (or its equivalent); OR
  • a recognised degree in a non-business area (or its equivalent), plus at least three years of supervisory/managerial experience; OR
  • a recognised post-secondary qualification at Qualifications Framework Level 4 (or its equivalent) in a business-related area, plus at least ten years of supervisory/managerial experience.
  • applicants must meet the following English language proficiency requirements if their Bachelor's Degrees or equivalent qualifications did not adopt English as the medium of instruction.

Students pursuing the MPMHBF programme through Pathway 1 must complete 24 credit-units, including 12 credit-units from BUS 8060BEF and 12 credit-units from concentration courses (6 credit-units from HPM 8003BEF and 6-credit units from HPM 8004BEF respectively). (For details of Pathway 1, please refer to the Entry Requirements.)

In addition to the 36 credit-units (or 24 credit-units for Pathway 1), students will need to complete additional courses required by the School after assessing their academic backgrounds, results in the admission tests, language proficiency and other relevant factors in order to facilitate effective learning of Master's degrees in business-related areas. The specific requirements will be stipulated in the offer letter.

Micro-credentials

Upon successful completion of the designated concentration courses and fulfilling the requirements set by professional organisations, students will have the opportunity to earn globally recognised micro-credentials/ certifications. These micro-credentials/ certifications include:

Certification of Hotel Industry Analytics from Smith Travel Research (STR)

Certified ESG Planner from International Chamber of Sustainable Development (ICSD)

Certified Hospitality Manager from The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI)

DURATION OF STUDY

Part-time students can normally complete the Master's programmes in 30 months. The minimum study duration for part-time students of the Master's programmes is 2 years.

MODE OF STUDY

The courses in the programme will be taught through face-to-face mode.

LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION

The language of instruction for all courses of the programme is English.

Business Transformation Immersion Programme

In the era of globalisation, market opportunities and business operations are not restricted by national boundaries. In view of this, a Business Transformation Immersion Programme (BTIP) is designed to empower students to effectively handle imminent challenges in the fast-changing markets and workplace, to allow students learn about the latest developments in business transformation, and explore new opportunities. The tuition fees include the fees for the BTIP^. Air passage, food, accommodation, and other incidental expenses are not included in the tuition fees and are to be borne by students. The BTIP is compulsory for full-time students while optional for part-time students.

ADMISSION INTERVIEW ARRANGEMENT

Applicants who are deemed to have fulfilled the entry requirements will be invited to attend an admission interview. The interview will be conducted via Zoom. Candidates may be asked to discuss current affairs and/or case analysis for the assessment of their capabilities, such as analytical skills, adaptability, interpersonal skills, presentation skills, and their ability to form logical arguments.
