Biography

Xiaoqiao Li is a research-based artist, PhD candidate and a current senior lecturer at the Department of Creative Arts under the School of Arts and Social Science at the Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU). His research analyses digital print-matrixes via the dialogue between analogue and digital imprints. Through such a practice-based approach, his research is engaged with the question of how the printmaking process can help us understand how information is captured, retained, lost, and transmitted in digital imaging functions. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Visual Art at the Faculty of Arts and Design, Macao Polytechnic University and his MA in Visual Arts at Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London. In 2019, he was awarded the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme by the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong to pursue PhD in visual arts studies at the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University. He has exhibited nationally and internationally and has received professional awards across the globe, including the Clifford Chance Purchase Prize in the UK and the Chinese Young Artists' Work Award at the Beijing International Art Biennale. He has undertaken the International Artist Residence Program at Nansha Ancient Village Artist-In-Residence, Guangzhou city, China, 2019 and Hu's Art Gallery, Auckland, New Zealand, 2017. In addition, he continually publishes his research activity through international conferences and symposiums papers.
