Latest Scam Alerts

The Hong Kong Police Force observed a recent surge in telephone scams in the following two modes of operation. A brief summary is provided below for your attention.

 

(1) Phone Scammers Impersonating Customer Service Staff
Scammers called and impersonated customer service staff from merchants (e.g. telecommunications service providers, payment or shopping platforms), requiring victims to provide banking information or instructing victims to make transfer to specific bank accounts.  For details, please refer to the following links:

(2) Tech Support Scam 
Scammers initiated contact by displaying fake error messages and tech support hotlines on websites victims visited, enticing victims to call.  During the call, scammers pretended to be computer technicians from well-known companies.  They claimed that the victims' computers had problems and instructed victims to install software which gave them remote access or to pay.  For details, please refer to the following links:
