HKMU names a nursing teaching facility as “Edward Cheung Nursing Skills Education Unit” in recognition of the generous donation from Dr Edward Cheung Wing-yui.

The named Unit can create a clinical training environment for students to learn basic skills of nursing care.
Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) named a nursing teaching facility as “Edward Cheung Nursing Skills Education Unit” today (17 January) in recognition of the generous donation of HK$5 million from Dr Edward Cheung Wing-yui for supporting the development of Jockey Club Institute of Healthcare (IOH).
A practising solicitor in Hong Kong, Dr Edward Cheung Wing-yui has taken up a number of public roles to contribute to society. He has also been actively involved in the development of HKMU through serving in various capacities. Dr Cheung was appointed as a member of the University Council in 1997, and as the Deputy Chairman of the Council from 2008 to 2014. He was also a member of the Executive Committee, as well as the Chairman and Co-Deputy Chairman of the University's Sponsorship & Development Fund Committee (SDFC). He is currently a member of Court and a member of SDFC, offering valuable advice and guidance to the University to facilitate its development.
Throughout the years, Dr Cheung has donated over HK$7.8 million to HKMU in support of various schemes and initiatives, including the university’s anniversary activities, scholarship scheme, development projects of Jockey Club Campus and IOH. In 2016, Dr Cheung was conferred the Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration by the University in recognition of his outstanding achievements and contribution to the community.
Council Chairman Mr Michael Wong Yick-kam expressed his sincere gratitude to Dr Cheung for his generosity and staunch support. He remarked that the completion of the new campus would not have been possible without the donations of the supporters. He looked forward to the continued collaboration with the donors to further enhance students' learning and develop professional and applied programmes.
President Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing thanked Dr Cheung for his unfailing support to HKMU. He wished that HKMU students could learn perseverance and determination from him and contribute to Hong Kong in the future.
“Edward Cheung Nursing Skills Education Unit” is located on the seventh floor of the IOH.
Equipped with patient models and basic nursing care equipment, it is set up as an authentic ward to create a clinical training environment for students. With the other nursing laboratories that incorporated the learning elements of general, mental and Chinese medicinal nursing, HKMU is committed to offering students a holistic learning environment and nurturing them to become healthcare professionals.
