The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) named a lecture theatre at the Kwai Hing Campus of the Li Ka Shing School of Professional and Continuing Education (LiPACE) after Dr Lam Kin-chung in recognition of the generous donation of HK$2.5 million from him and his friend Dr Ho Hau-wong. The donation was made in the name of the “Lam Kin Chung Morning Sun Charity Fund” in support of the general development of the OUHK.
The naming ceremony of Lam Kin Chung Lecture Theatre held today (28 January) was officiated by Dr Lam Kin-chung, Dr Ho Hau-wong, and OUHK President Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong. Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Wong expressed his heartfelt thanks to the two donors for their generosity. He said, “Dr Lam and Dr Ho are staunch supporters of charitable services. They have devoted themselves to promoting education development in mainland China and Hong Kong, making significant contributions towards various educational institutions.”
Dr Lam Kin-chung, Founder of Lam Kin Chung Morning Sun Charity Fund, is a recipient of the University’s inaugural Honorary University Fellowship and a member of the OUHK Sponsorship and Development Fund Committee (SDFC) under the Council for years. He set up a scholarship for OUHK students back in 1997, and has sponsored many OUHK projects and activities since then, including the University’s anniversary activities, international conferences, public lectures, and Phase Two campus development plan. In 2001, he also donated HK$1 million to the OUHK in supporting the Information Technology Development Plan.
Dr Ho Hau-wong, Board Chairman of Guangxi Peixian International College, is a distinguished entrepreneur with strong commitment towards promoting education for the youth. He has been an ardent supporter of the OUHK in initiating academic collaboration between the School of Arts and Social Sciences and the College a few years ago.
LiPACE offers a diverse choice of programmes to serve the needs of learners from all walks of life. Located on the 11th floor of the Kwai Hing Campus of LiPACE, the 170-square-metre Lam Kin Chung Lecture Theatre serves as the major venue for offering mass lectures for various programmes, as well as for organising talks and ceremonies.

The process of amending the ordinance governing the University has been started and formal approval from the Legislative Council will be sought. The new title shows the unique position of the University in metropolitan Hong Kong. It also signifies the University’s path of transformation from a modest distance education institution to a full-fledged university and reflects its unique characteristics and strategic focuses.
