Application for HKMU Students

HKMU students who have registered for one credit-bearing course are eligible to apply for advanced standing.

You are required to:

  1. read carefully the Guide to Application for Advanced Standing;
  2. complete the application Form A-AP in accordance with instructions;
  3. pay an application fee;
  4. submit required copies of certificates and transcripts in the manner as specified (refer to Section L5 of the Guide to Application for Advanced Standing;
  5. submit required syllabus information (refer to Section H3 of the Guide to Application for Advanced Standing.

The University may not be able to process an application if the required documentation and syllabus information are not available.

Application Fee

Current application fees are valid up to 31 August 2024 are as follows:

GCT

HK$1,115 per application

SCT/GCT

HK$3,330 for an application of 1 to 3 courses, thereafter HK$1,115 for every 3 additional courses, i.e. HK$4,445 for an application of 4 to 6 courses and HK$5,560 for 7 to 9 courses, and so on.

BCT

HK$4,450 per application

The application fees will be revised from 1 September 2024. The new fees are as follows:

GCT

HK$1,135 per application

SCT/GCT

HK$3,405 for an application of 1 to 3 courses, thereafter HK$1,135 for every 3 additional courses, i.e. HK$4,540 for an application of 4 to 6 courses and HK$5,675 for 7 to 9 courses, and so on.

BCT

HK$4,535 per application

Applicants are required to pay the new fees if the applications are received on or after 1 September 2024.  For applications sent in by mail, the cut-off date will be determined in accordance with the postmark.

All paid application fees are non-refundable.

Extended Scheme for Non-HKMU Students

The Extended Scheme is designed for non-students / applicants. Applicants who do not wish to enroll in a course prior to applying for advanced standing may apply via the Extended Scheme.

The three types of advanced standing, General Credit Transfer (GCT), Specific Credit Transfer (SCT) and Block Credit Transfer (BCT) are available under the Extended Scheme. Applications submitted via the Extended Scheme are processed in the same manner and subject to the same policies as applications submitted by other student claimants, save in the following two aspects:

(1)   Validity period of advanced standing awards

Transfer credits awarded under the Extended Scheme are subject to a two-year validity period from the date of the release of application results. If the applicant registers for a credit-bearing course and becomes our student within the two-year validity period, the awarded transfer credits will be confirmed as permanent awards. Otherwise, the awarded transfer credits will be invalidated after the two-year validity period.

(2)   Claim fees and partial refund

Applications submitted under the Extended Scheme are subject to a higher application fee which is 150% of the normal fees charged for a normal student claimant, but are entitled to a refund of one-third of the paid amount if the applicant registers for a credit-bearing course and becomes our student within the two-year validity period. After the refund, the application fee paid by the applicant is the same as that paid by a normal student claimant. The remaining portion of the paid application fee is non-refundable irrespective of the application result.

If you are interested in the Extended Scheme, you are required to:

  1. read carefully the Guide to Application for Advanced Standing and the Special Notes on the Extended Scheme for Advanced Standing;
  2. complete the application Form A-AP-EX in accordance with instructions;
  3. pay an application fee;
  4. submit required copies of certificates and transcripts in the manner as specified (refer to Section L5 of the Guide to Application for Advanced Standing;
  5. submit required syllabus information (refer to Section H3 of the Guide to Application for Advanced Standing.

The University may not be able to process an application if the required documentation and syllabus information are not available.

Application Fee

HK$1,675 per application

SCT/GCT

HK$4,995 for an application of 1 to 3 courses, thereafter HK$1,675 for every 3 additional courses, i.e.HK$6,670 for an application of 4 to 6 courses and HK$8,345 for 7 to 9 courses, and so on.

BCT

HK$6,675 per application

The application fees for the Extended Scheme will be revised from 1 September 2024. The new fees are as follows:

GCT

HK$1,705 per application

SCT/GCT

HK$5,110 for an application of 1 to 3 courses, thereafter HK$1,705 for every 3 additional courses, i.e.HK$6,815 for an application of 4 to 6 courses and HK$8,520 for 7 to 9 courses, and so on.

BCT

HK$6,805 per application

Applicants are required to pay the new fees if the applications are received on or after 1 September 2024.  For applications sent in by mail, the cut-off date will be determined in accordance with the postmark.

All paid application fees are non-refundable.

Application Procedures

Step 1

Send the completed form together with required copies of certificates, transcripts and syllabus information as specified to the following address:

Advanced Standing and Graduation Team, Registry, Hong Kong Metropolitan University, Room A0511, 30 Good Shepherd Street, Ho Man Tin, Kowloon.

Step 2

After we have received your application form with the necessary documents and information, we will initially check whether the documents and information are in order.  We will then notify you regarding the application fee that you are required to pay and the payment method via email.

Step 3

Use the “payment link” provided in the email to settle the application fee by credit card (VISA/Mastercard) or UnionPay. Save a copy of the payment record for your reference and notify the University via email with the relevant payment record to confirm your successful payment.

(Please note that during the processing of a case, the University may still contact an applicant for additional information necessary for processing of the application.)

Approval

Advanced standing applications will be processed by the University after all the required documentation and syllabus information is received. Each application is subject to approval by the Advanced Standing Committee upon recommendation by the respective academic unit (or its delegated authority).
