Biography

Dr. Lai is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education and Languages at Hong Kong Metropolitan University. Prior to joining HKMU, he was a Post-doctoral Fellow at The Education University of Hong Kong, appointed under the RGC Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme. His expertise includes Cantonese linguistics, Chinese dialectology, and digital humanities. He is the co-founder of the Cantonese Read-Aloud Test. His public digital humanities project on Cantonese was honoured in the Digital Humanities Awards 2024. In 2022, he was named “Li Fang-Kuei Society Young Scholar” by the Li Fang-Kuei Society for Chinese Linguistics.
