Distinguished Professors - Professor Ernesto Macaro

Ernesto Macaro is Emeritus Professor of Applied Linguistics in the Department of Education, and founding Director of EMI Oxford (Centre for Research and Development in English Medium Instruction), University of Oxford. He was a language teacher in UK secondary schools for 16 years before becoming a teacher educator and a researcher in applied linguistics. Prof Macaro's research interests are in the broad area of learning and teaching English as a second languages, and in particular in students' learning strategies, codeswitching patterns, the interaction between students and teachers in second language classrooms and the impact of English Medium Instruction in Higher and Secondary Education. His most recent book is English Medium Instruction, published by Oxford University Press.
