About Us

This international conference is funded by The Croucher Foundation Limited. Hong Kong Metropolitan University has a long and excellent track record in environmental science research, especially in harmful algal blooms (HABs) and applications of microalgae.

This conference aims at encouraging exchanges and collaborations among experts, scientists, practitioners and research students from governmental authorities, institutions, universities, algae industry and fishery industry in Hong Kong, Mainland China, South-East Asia and overseas on research, applications and management of algae.

Main objectives of this conference:

1. To facilitate exchange and share latest updates in algae biology, algae cultivation and applications, algal biomass production and commercialization, and prevention, monitoring, management and policies of HABs among different algae-related sectors and industries;
2. To establish a collaborative network between relevant authorities in Hong Kong, Mainland China, South-East Asia and other parts of the world on research, applications and management of algae;
3. To consolidate the advances and latest updates in algae biology;
4. To identify state-of-the-art technologies to select, cultivate, harvest algal biomass, and latest applications of biomass; and
5. To develop effective policy-tools and mechanisms in the management of harmful algal blooms.
