Hooray, welcome to a new academic year! Are you a freshman just started your U-life? Or are you a returnee back to the campus again after a long year of online learning? The Library is delighted to greet each and every one of you!
We have already prepared a series of activities to help you know more about the Library. In this issue, we will also tell you more about our services and highlighted collections. We sincerely hope that we can meet in the coming Library activities or in the campus libraries.

Different orientation activities are ready for you to join to learn more about the HKMU Library! Helping you to know more about the Library services, facilities, collections as well as searching Library resources, let the Library be your best companion in your coming U-life.
A) Essentials for your U-life: Getting started with the Library
In this workshop, we will show you different library services, resources and facilities, as well as demos on searching Library resources via LibSearch.

Hello, our new and old friends, are you on Instagram? The Library is on Instagram too!
As the OUHK has been retitled HKMU, the Instagram account of the Library is changed from @ouhklib to @hkmulib now. Do keep following us for the latest news of the Library!

Library User Satisfaction Survey 2021
We value users’ views and thoughts about our services. In April 2021, the Library conducted an online User Satisfaction Survey in order to collect feedback from our users. The Survey was completed successfully on 9 May 2021. Over 1,500 valid submissions were received. The majority of respondents were face-to-face students (63.9%), followed by staff and tutors (17.4%) and distance learning students (17%). The average overall satisfaction rate was 4.1 on a five-point scale.
As a token of appreciation, the Library offered 58 prizes in a lucky draw to current students and staff who completed the questionnaire and chose to join the lucky draw. The lucky draw was held on 8 June 2021. The President, Vice President (Students & Support) and the President of the HKMU Students' Union were invited to draw the winners together with the Librarian.
Two separate prize presentation sessions were held on 2 and 6 July 2021. During the presentation sessions, the Librarian expressed his gratitude to all the winners for their participation and presented the prizes to them.

A big thanks and blessings to our just graduated Student Library Assistants! And a delightful welcome to our newcomers!
Every year, the Library recruited helpers through our Student Library Assistants Programme to assist in our daily operations and special projects. Before the end of the academic year, to show our gratitude to the hard work of our Student Library Assistants, our Librarian had presented a Certificate of Appreciation to our graduating Student Library Assistants. We wish them all the best and may all their dreams come true!
In August, we greeted our newly recruited and serving Student Library Assistants. In order to help them to have a more thorough understanding of the Library services and facilities, we had organized three training sessions for them. During the first training session, we had invited Prof. Kwok, our Vice President (Students and Support), to have a sharing with all our Student Library Assistants. The sharing session served as a platform for exchanging views and sharing experiences. Our Librarian and Division Heads joined the sharing session as well.
With the helping hands of our Student Library Assistants, we are looking forward to serving you in the Library!
The Library: resources, activities, and a great place for learning!
Sure, the Library is a place with abundant learning resources, but at the same time it is also a great venue for learning and sharing. In the Ho Sik Yee Library, we have a Flexible Activity Zone, an area where different kinds of learning activities can be held.
From February to May this year, the “Writer-in-Residence” Programme, organized by the Department of Creative Arts and Tin Ka Ping Centre of Chinese Culture, School of Arts and Social Sciences, was held in the Flexible Activity Zone and the adjacent Refreshment Corner. In this vibrant environment, both Mr. Dung Kai Cheung, the first writer-in-residence of the University, and our Creative Arts students and teachers had a relaxing time to exchange their ideas and experiences.
We welcome all of you to start your learning journey in this new academic year in the Library!

New Library resources highlights
The Library has subscribed to the following new services for you, so that you can save more time and focus on your study and research!
More than 500 electronic textbooks for humanities and social sciences subjects have been subscribed by the Library on this new platform from Cambridge University Press, with new titles added regularly. This site allows unlimited concurrent access to a title for online reading. Offline reading is also available to store up to 20 electronic textbooks on a computer or mobile device. To facilitate your study or research, you may like to export citations, bookmark the content and view all your markers afterwards.
The Chinese Electronic Theses and Dissertation Service features access to full-text of the masters and doctoral theses since 2004 mainly from outstanding universities and colleges in Taiwan. These theses are mostly in Chinese, with disciplines including humanities, basic & applied sciences, health & medical care, bio-agriculture, engineering and social sciences.
You can now access the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) with 74.4 million cited references from 2005 to the current year! This index is part of the Web of Science Core collection. ESCI has more than 7,800 unique and quality journal titles covering all disciplines from international and broad scope to deeper regional or specialty area. Have you also tried these other editions of the Web of Science Core Collection that can help you discover the latest research topics or anyone who has cited your research paper?
From September this year, you are able to find more than 980 Chinese academic journals with full-text coverage from the China Academic Journals Full-text Database – Science and Technology (Chemistry / Metallurgy / Environment / Mine Industry). Such journals cover a wide range of subjects including chemistry, petroleum, natural gas industry, material science, mining engineering, metal science and metal technics, metallurgy industry, security science and disaster prevention, environment science and resources utilization etc.
HKMU Student Works Repository
The HKMU Library proudly presents to you the newly launched HKMU Student Works Repository. The Repository aims at collecting, preserving and showcasing HKMU students' creative works to stakeholders and the general public in order to provide a better understanding about the University, its students and their works. The collections in the Repository include creative artworks, articles and papers, student projects recommended by the Schools. The digitized materials consist of photographs, posters, audio-visual recordings, reports and other format types. Visit the Repository to explore the excellent works of HKMU students!
