School of Arts and Social Sciences

Professor Charles KWONG Che-leung obtained his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Social Sciences in Economics from The University of Hong Kong, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Development Studies from Monash University in Australia. With more than 28 years of experience at HKMU, Professor KWONG has emerged as a seasoned academic administrator with excellent track record and exposure in teaching, programme development, scholarly activities and school management.  Some of his major accomplishments include obtaining an Enhancement and Start-up Scheme for Self-financing Post-secondary Education (ESGS) of HK$33 million to launch a new programme and upgrade laboratory & equipment, a Quality Enhancement Support Scheme (QESS) fund of HK$2.35 million to explore how Virtual Reality enhances learning effectiveness, as well as an Institutional Development Project of HK$5.79 million to establish a Public and Social Policy Research Centre. He has also made notable contribution to the enrichment of the art and cultural scene in HKMU through a wide range of cultural events and performances. Apart from his academic duties, he has widely engaged in research/publications covering areas of China's macroeconomic reform and economic development, with focus on its banking and financial system. He has been the Guest Editor of the journal The Chinese Economy for special issues on China's banking system and rural development. Professor KWONG has also actively engaged in the administration of the University, professional and community services.  He has served on the Council, Senate and various university committees of HKMU over the past years as well as a number of committees in Education Bureau and the HKEAA since 2003.  He is also regularly invited by HKCAAVQ to serve as expert member in panels for the accreditation of both local and overseas academic programmes offered in Hong Kong. He has been the Assessment Panel Member for the Chief Executive's Award for Teaching Excellence since 2023. He was also Executive Committee Member of the Hong Kong Economic Association and was invited to serve as the Chair of Problem Committee of the 2024 International Economics Olympiad.

Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration

Professor Alan AU Kai-ming obtained his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Waikato in New Zealand, where he began his academic career.  Joining HKMU in 1995, he was appointed as Associate Dean (B&A) in 2010 and Dean (B&A) since 2015.  With almost 29 years of experience at HKMU, Professor AU has spearheaded and implemented a number of strategic initiatives in line with the University's mission and goals, including most notably the introduction of integrated curriculum in undergraduate business programmes and the development of the Global Immersion Programme.  Under his leadership, the School of B&A has fostered international academic collaborations with over 20 partners across 12 different countries and forged impactful strategic partnerships within various industries.

Professor AU has published widely in international refereed journals, such as Global Strategy JournalJournal of World BusinessJournal of Business Ethics, and Entrepreneurship and Regional Development.  His areas of specialisation include business ethics, international management, technology transfer and marketing.   As Principal or Co-Principal Investigator, he has secured over HK$20 million in external competitive grants and internal grants.  Professor AU is also committed to promoting knowledge exchange between the academia and society at large.  He has published articles extensively in major local newspapers and business magazines on topics relating to branding, consumer behaviour, management and marketing communications.  Over the years, Professor AU has also engaged in numerous consultancy projects for the public and private sectors, such as the Hong Kong Government, US Government, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, District Boards, Bureau of Foreign Trade and Cooperation of Guangzhou Municipality, A.S. Watson Asia Limited, and KONE Hong Kong.

Professor AU currently serves on HKMU Court and Senate, as well as a number of University committees.  He is also actively involved in professional and public services.  As a Fellow of The Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) in the United Kingdom and The Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute (HKCGI), Professor AU is also currently the Chair of the Professional Standards Committee of CGI and member of the Executive Committee of its International Council.   He is also invited to serve on the Advisory Group for Financial Education for Young Adults of the Investor and Financial Education Council, as well as the Research Ethics Committee of the Hong Kong Sanatorium Hospital Medical Group.  Furthermore, Professor AU is regularly invited by HKCAAVQ to serve as chairman or expert member in panels for the accreditation of both local and overseas academic programmes offered in Hong Kong.

Prof. Eva MAN Kit-wah 文潔華教授

Prof Eva Kit Wah Man got her PhD in Philosophy and Chinese Studies from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and she studied Art History for her postgraduate degree at the University of Victoria, BC Canada in the 1990s.

Her research expertise lies in philosophy of art, comparative aesthetics, gender and cultural studies and Neo-Confucian philosophy. She has published 41 books including single authored and edited academic anthologies and creative writing, over 100 entries in refereed and indexed academic journals and book chapters. Her GRF grants include research projects in Hong Kong Visual Arts History, Hong Kong Dance History and Choreography Studies, and Aesthetic Discourses in Contemporary China. She was a Fulbright Scholar affiliated at the Chinese Studies Center of UC Berkeley, a life fellow of the Clare Hall College of the University of Cambridge, UK, AMUW endowed professor at the Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, US and Kiriyama endowed Professor at the Center of Pacific and Asia Studies at the University of San Francisco, US. She is currently serving on the editorial board of 7 international academic journals.

She is currently Emeritus Professor in Humanities at Hong Kong Baptist University. During her long years' service at HKBU, she was the Head of Humanities and Creative Writing, Acting Director of the Academy of Visual Arts, Executive Associate Dean of Graduate School and Director of the Academy of Film. She was an awardee of President's Award for Outstanding Performance in Scholarly Work and President,s Award for Outstanding Performance in Service at HKBU and an awardee of Outstanding Performance in Public Service conferred by the Home Affairs Bureau of HKSAR. She is now serving at Hong Kong Arts Development Council chairing the Committee of Art Criticism, a member of the Acquisition Committee of M+, and a Board member of Tai Kwun Arts and Heritage Company run by the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

Dr. Rebecca LEUNG Mo-ling
梁慕靈博士

Dr Rebecca Leung Mo-Ling is currently the Associate Professor of the School of Arts and Social Sciences at the Hong Kong Metropolitan University, Associate Dean and the Director of the Tin Ka Ping Centre of Chinese Culture. She received her BA, MPhil, and PhD in Chinese from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and obtained Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Hong Kong. She has also been a visiting scholar at the Institute of Modern History at Academia Sinica in Taipei. Her research interests primarily revolve around Chinese modern literature, Chinese contemporary literature, cultural & film theory and creative writing studies. She has published numerous papers in renowned journals such as Bulletin of the Institute of Chinese Literature and PhilosophyTsing Hua Journal of Chinese Studies, Bulletin of the Department of Chinese Literature National Chengchi University, Router: A Journal of Cultural Studies, and Chinese Modern Literature. She also published books titled Chinese Creative Writing StudiesChinese Creative Writing Studies: Theory, Pedagogy and PracticeChinese Creative Writing and Multimedia in PracticeImagination and Shaping: The Newspaper Coverage of Eileen Chang in ShanghaiHong Kong, and Taiwan; and Visuality, Gender and Power: The Imaginations in Novels from Liu Na’ouMu Shiying to Eileen Chang etc. Apart from academic research, she is also enthusiastic about creative writing. She obtained the prestigious “Unitas Award for New Novelists” in Taiwan in 2002. Her novel A Lover’s Discourse: Fragments 02.21 was published by Linking Publishing Company in Taiwan in 2021.

Dr. Shawn SHAO Dong
邵棟博士

Dr Shawn Shao received his BA degree from Nanjing University, MPhil, and PhD degree in Chinese from The The University of Hong Kong. He is currently acting as Assistant Professor of the School of Arts and Social Sciences at HKMU. His research interests lie in Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, Sinophone Literature, Film Studies and Nanshe Studies. He has published several papers in peer reviewed journals such as Chung Wai Literary QuarterlyTwenty-First Century, and Literature in ChineseHe has published his first academic monograph The Silver Screen among Pages: A study of Yingxi Fiction in Early Republican China in 2017. He is also the member of the Society of Chinese Theories in Literature and Arts. 

As the member of The Union of Hong Kong Writers, Dr Shawn Shao has been awarded 9th Global Contest in Chinese Creative Writing 1st prize(2017), Lin Yutang Literary Awards 1st prize(2016), HK Youth literary Awards short story excellent prize(2015) during recent years. He is also a Columnist of Initium Media and The Paper News. His first book of selected Short stories, named Air Guitar, came off press in 2022.
