Biography

Dr. Yvonne Chen is the Associate Director of the Li Ka Shing School of Professional and Continuing Education (LiPACE). In this role, Dr. Chen oversees the Division of Business, Hospitality, and Culture, and chairs the Student Learning Experience Committee, where she promotes and implements the concept of "Total Learning Experience" at LiPACE. Beyond her administrative duties, she conducts research in hotel management and education, and serves on various university-level committees, including the Industry Partnership and Student Development Committee, the Quality Enhancement Measures Committee, and the Student Financial Awards Committee. 

Dr. Chen studied International Hospitality Management in Switzerland and earned her Doctor of Hotel and Tourism Management (D.HTM) from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She has extensive experience in both the hotel industry and the education sector, with a diverse background in higher education, continuing education, and corporate training. Prior to joining LiPACE, Dr. Chen was an Assistant Professor at the Macao University of Tourism, which is ranked #1 in Macao, #3 in Asia, and #12 in the world according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024. In this role, she not only taught and managed the hotel management programme but also supervised undergraduate and master's students in their thesis work. Additionally, as a panel member of the Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme (QTSAS), Dr. Chen regularly engaged with government officials from the Macao Tourism Office and representatives from the hotel, food and beverage, travel agency, and retail sectors to discuss quality enhancement initiatives. 

In the realm of programme development and corporate/vocational training design and delivery, Dr. Chen has collaborated with industry partners and hotel department heads to create and develop numerous academic programmes and training courses. She spent four years at the corporate office of Galaxy Entertainment Group, a mega-sized integrated resort complex in Macao that includes three fully-owned luxury hotels, casinos, Michelin-starred restaurants, a shopping mall, and a convention center. Within the Organization Development and Training Department, Dr. Chen managed a comprehensive range of learning and development functions, including performance improvement analysis, instructional design, training delivery, and learning impact evaluation. She also specializes in leadership and talent development.
