Introduction

The Bachelor of Nursing programme is a comprehensive educational course specifically designed for registered nurses in Hong Kong who are seeking to further their careers with a bachelor’s degree. The Programme offers a holistic approach to nursing education, equipping graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their field. It is particularly suited for those who aspire to take on leadership roles and contribute to the advancement of nursing practice, education, and research.

Programme Aims

The Programme aims to prepare students with the essential professional knowledge, skills and competence to:

  • Meet current and emergent needs of the clients, the health care system and the community of Hong Kong;
  • Think analytically and critically with culturally sensitivity for evolving into change agents;
  • Adopt a holistic approach of health to nursing practice and apply evidence-based practices in their care and professional activities.

Programme Features

Upon completion of this programme, students will be able to:

  • Utilise update nursing knowledge to assess and diagnose clients’ multidimensional health status and needs for formulating holistic and culturally relevant care plans;
  • Design client-centered community care for the improvement of health care delivery and personal wellbeing;
  • Critically reflect their perceptions of and practices of nursing within the socio-ethical and legal context of health care settings;
  • Examine current care practice for advancing the body of knowledge in nursing through cognizant use of research evidences;
  • Appraise the global nursing profession for identifying areas for change.

Admission Requirements

For 2024 Intake Onwards:

  • For Registered Nurses of Non-HKMU/OUHK Graduates
    Applicants who registered with the Nursing Council of Hong Kong as Registered Nurses can enter the Programme through Pathway 1.
  • For HKMU/OUHK Graduates
    Applicants who completed the Higher Diploma in Nursing (HDN) or Mental Health Nursing (HDMHN) programme offered by HKMU/OUHK can enter the Programme through Pathway 2.

Programme Structure

  • For 2024 Intake Onwards (3-Credit-Unit System)
  • For 2023 Intake or Before (5-Credit System)

Students admitted to the programme through Pathway 1 are required to successfully complete at least 33 credit-units as follows:
a. 21 credit-units of core courses from Table 1;
b. 9 credit-units of University core courses from Table 2; and
c. 3 credit-units of one 2000-level course offered by HKMU^

Students admitted to the programme through Pathway 2 are required to successfully complete at least 30 credit-units as follows:
a. 21 credit-units of core courses from Table 1; and
b. 9 credit-units of University core courses from Table 2

*The three core courses in this programme are offered yearly in September and span across two terms each (Autumn and Spring). 2024 Autumn and 2025 Autumn presentation to be offered to continuing students only. Courses will be presented for the last time in 2025 Autumn Term.
