Introduction

The programmes consist of comprehensive curricula with practical training that enhance students’ development of a strong foundation in health assessment, therapeutic techniques and intervention strategies in order to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills to become competent Registered Nurses (General/Psychiatric) in Hong Kong. The programmes provide the challenges to people who have interest to practice in the health care field and have the vision of providing high quality nursing care.

Programme Aims

Upon successfully completing the programme, students should be able to:

  • Meet current and emergent needs of the clients, the health care delivery system and the community;
  • Be able to think analytically and critically, be self-directing and culturally sensitive;
  • Apply a holistic approach of health to nursing practice and to act as change agents;
  • Acknowledge and apply evidence-based practice in their day-to-day professional activities;
  • Become Registered Nurses (General/Psychiatric) in Hong Kong.

  • Simulated Learning Environment
    Provide a risk-free Clinical Nursing Education Centre for learning nursing skills from the basic to advanced level.

    Implement advanced technology to enhance the learning experience, such as Virtual Reality (VR) & Digital Virtual Dissection (DVD) System.

    Provide digital devices to students during practicum to access the learning materials and complete the clinical assessment via system conveniently.

    – Include the diverse perspectives of mental health.

Admission Requirements

  • JUPAS:
    Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE):
    – Chinese Language: Level 3 or above; and
    – English Language: Level 3 or above; and
    – Mathematics (Compulsory Part): Level 2 or above; and
    – Citizenship and Social Development: Attained; and
    – 1st Elective Subject or M1/M2: Level 2 or above; and
    – 2nd Elective Subject or M1/M2: Level 2 or above
    (preferably Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Health Management & Social Care)

Programme Structure

During the five years of study, students will need to complete 200 credits from theoretical courses and practicum.
Theoretical Courses (160 credits)

  1. Professional-specific courses (130 credits) – They cover a wide variety of subject areas including human anatomy and physiology, behavioural sciences, health assessment, clinical nursing, health promotion, primary health care, Chinese and alternative medicinal nursing, nursing research, nursing theories, nursing ethics, nursing management, legal aspects of nursing, health care system and health care policies.
  2. English Language courses (10 credits)
  3. General education courses (20 credits)
  4. University's core values (non-credit bearing) – Integrity, Fairness, Perseverance, Innovation.
  5. Practicum (40 credits) – The practicum exposes students to the clinical environment in hospitals and other health care settings. Face-to-face supervised practice and coaching takes place to assist students to gain clinical competence.

Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Nursing with Honours in General Health Care or Bachelor of Nursing with Honours in Mental Health Care programmes, graduates are eligible to register as Registered Nurses (General) or Registered Nurses (Psychiatric) respectively with the Nursing Council of Hong Kong.

Advanced Practice Nurse: Graduates can progress to become Advanced Practice Nurses and take on advanced practitioner roles. In these positions, they will implement advanced nursing practices, interventions, and therapies for individuals with general or mental health conditions. Additionally, they will have the responsibility of supervising junior nurses and ensuring the delivery of high-quality care.

Ward Manager: Graduates can advance their careers by taking on the role of a ward manager. As a ward manager, they will oversee a working unit within a healthcare setting. They will be responsible for managing the operations of the ward.

Nurse Educator: Graduates can choose to pursue fulfilling careers as educators in nursing. They can engage in teaching activities within educational institutions, sharing their knowledge and skills with future generations of nurses.
